CWNews.com --SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras – Hundreds of children have arrived at a soccer stadium this morning to sing, dance, and especially, to pray.
These children have been trained to pray. And today they're doing it on national television, supported by thousands of people in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
The idea began with Pastor Roy Santos.
“Our nations are governed by men who make mistakes because when they were children, they were not ministered to,” said Santos. “It's the children who are going to maintain the revival of the last times. We adults will die and go to the presence of the Lord, but they're the ones who will stay with revival in their hearts and with the power of God.”
This is the eighth annual gathering of Children with One Voice, supported by the churches of San Pedro Sula and other cities in Honduras. Although it's not the only time a multitude of Christians has filled a stadium to pray for their communities and their country, this time the intercessors are not adults. They're children.
Children between the ages of eight and 12 can participate. This is the last year for Diana Hernandez, who just turned 12.
“And it's a privilege to be part of such a glorious event. And that the Lord and our parents and pastor would consider us,” she said.
These children not only know how to pray, they've been trained as "proclaimers." With authority, they proclaim changes and blessings on their country.
When they graduate from Children with One Voice, according to pastor Santos, these children become young leaders in their churches. Some even hope to become full-time Christian workers.
“When I grow up I'd like to be a pastor…and an apostle,” said Jefry Martinez, an intercessor.
In spite of their young age, these children are convinced their prayers have been heard.
“One prayer request in Children with One Voice was that the Lord would provide a person to love the children of Honduras,” Hernandez said. “And the Lord answered us in 2004 when the First Lady of the nation, Cañas de Maduro, took charge of all the street children. She loved the children. And, she took them to orphanages.”
“We've seen powerful answers,” Pastor Santos said. “One of them is how hurricanes heading for us have been stopped when they were going to destroy us. But God had mercy, the children interceded. Another is the economy. Our nation was favored with the cancellation of 70 percent of our foreign debt.”
With these positive experiences, the child intercessors have expanded their thinking beyond local and national borders. Now they're praying for the nations of the world.
"We declare that the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord,” shouted one young lady.
There are few places in the world where children pray like these Honduran intercessors. One reason is the weekly training sessions on Bible knowledge, plus the needs of their country. This helps them talk and pray with great authority.
For Pastor Santos, the basic purpose of Children with One Voice is very clear.
"It's where we pastors get together with children to awaken a generation,” he said. “Because, if a generation awakens, a nation will change."
And for this vision to become a reality, Santos can now rely on hundreds of children and youth who are trained to pray.
