Study: Hollywood is a Big Air Polluter

CBNNews.com -- A new study says Hollywood has become a big air polluter.
The University of California's Institute of the Environment says the television and film industry continues to make large contributions to air pollution in southern California.

The entertainment industry generates a combined $29 billion in revenue and employs 252,000 people in the Greater Los Angeles region, according to the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp.

The two-year UCLA study says emissions from diesel generators used to power movie sets as well as idling vehicles and even special effects explosions are to blame. The study found that only petroleum manufacturing had more emissions.

Researchers did find that some studios have recycling programs and green building practices. However, they believe more can be done by the industry to be more environmentally friendly
The Los Angeles Times contributed to this report.
